SUMMARY:Composting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Hello farmers and gardeners! \nDive into the world of living soils. Groundwork Soil Lab and the San Juan Islands Conservation District will be partnering on May 20th from 9:30-12:30pm on Orcas for an in-person\, dynamic workshop focused on understanding soil microbiology and building biological compost piles. Learn how soil microbes improve plant vitality\, water infiltration and retention\, soil structure\, nutrient cycling\, and carbon drawdown. In this workshop we will look at organisms under the microscope\, build a thermophilic compost pile\, make compost extract\, and discuss the role of mycorrhizal fungi in healthy soils. \nIf you are looking for ways to become less reliant on fertilizers\, pesticides\, and other inputs\, this class is for you! Growers of all scales welcome. \n\nEvent registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/soil-biology-compost-workshop-tickets-625414871717 \nLocation will be announced after registration. \nHope to see you there!
