The Food for Thought Program focuses on unprocessed, locally sourced meals prepared by a knowledgeable staff with the help of culinary-minded students. Man’oushe Lebanese Street Food
Man’oushe is a popular “fast” food in Lebanon made of fresh flat bread, cheese, herbs, veggies and meat. One of the goals of the SJI Food Co-op is to purchase as much as possible locally. Sales of local food products make up 26% of our annual gross sales. In our produce department 69% of the sales are generated from local produce. In our meat & fish department, local sales account for 45% of sales. Other departments that generate significant local sales are basic grocery and health & beauty. In an effort to support and encourage local production, we have chosen to pay our producers as generously as possible while using a minimal mark-up on those goods.

SJI Transport Service is an Island-based fresh, frozen, and value-added grocery business-to-business trucking service serving the San Juan Islands with a refrigerated truck that travels between the Islands and the mainland carrying fresh local and regional products to co-ops, restaurants, food hubs, and stores. The customer orders from the producer, contracts SJI Transport, and the goods are at the door within hours, letting the farmer farm and getting their food to market as fresh as possible!
